This is a book I wrote. Because I wrote it, I had to figure out what to put on the back cover to explain what it is. I tried to write a long, third-person summary that would imply how great the book is and also sound vaguely authoritative--like maybe someone who isn’t me wrote it--but I soon discovered that I’m not sneaky enough to pull it off convincingly. So I decided to just make a list of things that are in the book:
Pictures
Words
Stories about things that happened to me
Stories about things that happened to other people because of me
Eight billion dollars*
Stories about dogs
The secret to eternal happiness*
*These are lies. Perhaps I have underestimated my sneakiness!
...............................................................................................................................
In all honesty, the only reason I didn't pick this book up sooner was because I didn't have the money to. But recently I purchased the book from Barnes and Noble and I couldn't help but pick it up (almost) immediately. Let me just say once I started it was hard to stop. Allie is freaking HILARIOUS! Her writing is funny and relatable but I think what really topped the cake was the drawings. The drawings had me laughing out loud.
Here were some of my favorite stories from the book:
"A lingering fear of mine was confirmed last night: My dog might be slightly retarded.
I've wondered about her intelligence ever since I adopted her and subsequently discovered that she was unable to figure out how stairs worked."

And....
"I had tasted cake and there was no going back. My tiny body had morphed into a writhing mass of pure tenacity encased in a layer of desperation. I would eat all of the cake or I would evaporate from the sheer power of my desire to eat it."
Allie also provided a touching story about what it was like to go through depression. (Throughout the entire story the comedy was still sustained even though of the topic) I thought it was interesting to hear her experience with depression (considering I have never been depressed personally)
She also made me question if my own dog was related to the Simple Dog. Is it bad that there are so many similarities?
Overall I think Allie is a talented writer. She has the ability to craft her life experiences into the most bizarre, comedic, wonderful stories I have read in a long time. :)
My personal favorites were any story that involved the Helper dog or the Simple dog.
